MOOSE, where did the 39 mph low range come from? Very curious & seems pretty fast.

it will do 39mph....Polaris even advertised that fact. It bounces off the rev limiter at 39..Actually had mine hit 40 testing out the higher low gear...My old 800 sounded like it was ready to blow at 20..The xp is revving quit high at 39 in low but it will do it...I feel safe doing up to 30 on a regular basis in low..

 

Any idea what rpm @ 39 mph?

 

No sorry...I will check next time out though..It wont be till the weekend though..The 850 and 550 have the same low gear ratio though...But the 850 has a higher high gear..

 

I would be disapointed to. The new (less than 150kms) Can-am 650, can am 800, can am 400, Yamaha 400, Brute Force 650 all went the same places, the same speeds and there was no belt isues with any of them...I was there. Average speed was about 60kms (38mph) on hard beach. Definatly no water involved and definatly no hard riding involved either.

too many belts blown on a new machines to be driver error....id say factory error... id shove the belt in the dealers *** if they tried to make me pay with a brand new machine...

 

I think the whole riding in high gear too slow, will blow belts is a little misleading not explained well enough. As long as one is moving faster than 5-10 mph, all should be fine. Don't use high gear to lug it up ramps the into the back of your truck, go slow up hills in high gear. bump up against a log and keep pushing the throttle until it slips the belt etc etc. So it is more using the right gear in the right situation. but on a new machine sometimes blown belts more raises different questions. Has anyone compared the alignment and center to center distance between two different machines. looking to see if they vary at all.
Has anyone blown more than one belt?
If anyone here is a snowmobiler one might know that polaris had lots of belt trouble on their 900 rmk in 05 and 06. I think they found the motor mounts to be flexing to much. the aftermarket had a field day making things to fix them.

What percentage of 850 have had belt issues? Are we talking like 10%

 

Yep, I'm close to turning over 2600 miles on my Hawk with original belt.
