Default 2002 sportsaman 600 twin problems

This bike has been a pain in the #%$& since I bought it . Anyway , I had the over heating problem with the fan not wanting to stay on in the beginning . Got tired of taking it back to the shop that I bought it from and just bypassed the fan to ignition power . Then one day it decided not to start . I took it to a local guy who fixes motorcycles and it ended up being the coil . He fixed it and it ran for about a year . Now it wont start again and he says he will not work on Polaris bikes anymore because of their poor customer service and the fact they will not sell him parts . So Where do I get a coil for this thing that wont cost me an arm and leg ????

Ducati stators and coil packs were bad about going out on the early model 600-700 twins. Replacement Kokusan kits include stator, flywheel, individual coil and cdi. Not cheap, about $400. But if you plan on keeping the machine, well worth it, Kokusan is one of the best systems on the market. Some of our Ktm's come with this system. OPT

I don't know what the original one was but the one on it now is a ducati . I don't really know what the best coarse is to take . What is the best solution other than buying a new bike ?? Is this going to be a repeating problem no matter what I do ? Where do I get a kokusan and can i just replace the coil ??

I haven't had a 600 problem yet, just 700 engines, but both use the Ducati coil pack and stator assy! I've replaced several coil packs (yours is a coil pack, that is cdi and coil built together), and also on one particular 700 the stator was the problem and when I ordered it the number superceded to the Kokusan complete kit! Worked like a charm! As posted above is a new complete system:flywheel, stator,CDI and COIL separately! The frustration I've had also is to have a coil pack go bad, replace it and later the stator can go out, then you HAVE to update because you CAN"T buy the stator because its NLA! I'm a little frustrated too because Polaris must have a stash of coil packs and probably will sell em all knowing customers can be throwing money away if shortly afterwards the stator goes out! Like I said I've just encountered this only on the 700 because we only sold a very few 600"s! Best to my recollection the coil pack is a little over $200 versus the complete updated system for $400 which is basically bullet proof!! Check with your local dealer about the stator # and if it supercedes to the kit. I will try to remember tomorow and check myself at work. Even though the on line fiche may show the stator # with no superceded # OUR parts order will when we order! Well worth the extra $200 If you plan on keeping the machine! OPT

Have your dealer look up the magneto (stator) # and should supercede to the kukusan kit and YOU can install it yourself!! Has good instructions with kit! Good luck OPT

Ok, two more questions and I'm not trying to be a smart ***, just to be clear . When you say supersede do you mean the number will be the one in numerical order before the number on the kukusan kit ?? Or do you mean coincide with it as in it has the same number ??? Also will the dealer have this kit ?? Where do I get it ?? Thanks a bunch for your help man .. Mike

It means "replaced with". If I call up a number on our computer sometimes it shows another number to the side which is the "superceded" or replacement #. Dealer probably wont have kit in stock (same as we wouldn't have) CAN"T stock every thing, but he can order it. Good luck OPT
