Those look pretty cool, however the Texon site doesn't say anything about the luminosity of those bulbs. It says they are the color of 7000k HIDs but nothing on the luminosity. Was wondering if you have seen anything in your research on this subject. I've been thinking about getting HIDs but if these put out the same amount of light, I'd say they were defiantly the way to go.

led is in no way going to be close to an hid or really even the stock bulbs. the tech (especially for that price) just isnt there yet..

In my experience with led flashlights, they claim huge lumens, but in real world conditions they just dont seem to be bright at any sort of distance, otherwise known as "throw". Any high powered LED needs a lot of heat sinking also which would be hard to do with a stock plastic headlight assembly.

Unless you dont need a lot of light and are trying to save a few watts for some reason i think i would steer clear of these. Get a cheap 55w hid kit and enjoy daytime at night!!

after looking at the website definately stay away lol!! those look like they are only standard 5mm leds, not even the 3-5watt luxeons or crees. Go to walmart and buy one of those cheap led flashlights packed with 15 leds on the front to get an idea how bright these would be (not very)

will if id ever get differnt bulbs ill wait to get led bulbs. or go out and buya set of used headlights and fit leds in there. 1 watts. but with some of the leds items they have out there via whelen and so one. youd think theyed have better led headlight bulbs. i have a streamlight led flashlight. if i could get 7 or so of those leds and reflectors in the headlight. that be perfect. its like the led lightbars. its all about the reflector. the heat sink would be easy. i know the demand is there yet but it will be soon. like led tailights a few yrs ago there werent many. but now there in eveything and anything.

i just seen about a week ago the taillights in the outlaw polaris. that taillight is dam bright in brake mode. and there are only super flux/pirrana leds in there. about 12 if i rember correctly. the leds are there. its just a matter of haveing someone come out with it. id spend the money on a set of led replacement headlight houseing for my wheeler if they came out with a set. i may have to see if i can figure out something. i built my own led taillights for my truck. it lights up signs a few blocks away. and i have like 30 1watt leds in each side.

as for the walmart led flash lights. there nothing compaired to the streamlights.

i know the cheap walmart flashlights arnt the same as a stremlight (likely a luxeon led which is 1 or 3 watt), but those cheap flashlight use the 5mm leds like those bulbs appear to have, thats why i said that.

If you have 30 1 watt leds per brake light thats pretty bright.. lol..

its a funny thing about led's... See I build custom whelen lightbars. I have an amber whelen strobe lightbar for my truck. I picked up some whelen avenger series amber led lights to play around with. they are the best brightest led warning light out there. the single head avengers are 140 bucks a pop. at a close distance the led avenger seems to be twice as bright as the strobe. But get some distance between yourself and the lights and the strobes quickly becomes the stronger light over the output of the avengers (even more so off axis). Like i said, upclose the intensity of an led seems bright, but in the application of a headlight i dont think it would be the best choice. its almost like the white led light output is "dead" with very poor color rendition. So though it may be putting out a lot of lumens, a lot of them are going to waste because it doesnt reflect with full color spectrum. This is because most white leds are actually modified blue diodes with special phosphors to try and convert the blue light to white. It lacks full color output.

For true quality LED headlights we will have to wait for the high powered RGB leds to become more mainstream. The RGB leds have 3 diodes on the chip that each output red green and blue which will output true white light.

If the technology was here we would be seeing a lot of highend cars coming out with led headlights. Even LED lightbars which once bragged about having low current draw are starting to have the same if not more current draw then traditional strobe lightbars to get the brightness out of them.

For now HID bulbs are the king. Leds will probably in the next 10 years take over though as they become more robust and more efficient.

also for my 94 sportsman 400 i took a whelen 500 series red led out of a lightbar and custom fit it for a brake light (got tired of the halogen bulb burning out after one ride). Ill tell you what.. you dont want to be directly behind that light on a trail with the brakes on! lol. Its very bright directly behind it, but in led fashion anything 10º off axis or more it isnt too bright, but it is definitely unique!
