Default Sportsman 800 top speed?

Can any of you out there with stock 800s tell me what the top speed for your ride is? I bought a new 800 touring and after breaking it in for 10hr I finally decided to find out last weekend. I was not happy with what I found. The engine RPM seems to max out at about 3/4 throttle if that, and top speed was about 55mph. The 500 H.O. I traded in would run that fast. Granted the 800 gets there a lot quicker but something still doesn't seem right.

My stock 08 800 Sportsman with stock tires would run 70mph according to the speedo. It got up to 55 real fast and then creeped to 70.

Are you running the stock tires?

Yap with stock tires, can reach 70 mph according to speedo. With my 27" Mudlite XTR's on SS212 rims, can only get up to about 65.

I have a '07 X2 800 and with wife and I aboard, GPS was consistent at 65-67MPH on flat road at 1/3 mile run

Why would you want to go that fast? It looks like if speed was something you wanted, you would have got a sport bike.

he like the rest of us just wants what the bike is capleable of doing. speed is one of the factors for some who buy an 800, as i'm sure you have your own reason for having your 800.

But what trails do you ride where you can go that fast? Kinda like buying a buldozer to race, wheelie, & jump with.

Yep....I've said it before and I'll say it again...accelration and top speed are measures of power available...not every one throws their machine on a dyno....but most of us like to know what a machine is capable of....I bet more people check top speed than do not...especially if they upgraded to a larger engine...we may not need the speed, accelration and power on a regular basis..but we WANT it and we pay for it.....I may not go fast often..but I know I can if I need to

I must have an exceptionally fast machine. I was clocked by squad car radar at 78mph.

*edit*
The machine is a bone stock 07 with single exhaust FYI.
