Speedo's are generally inaccurate on quads. Or maybe inconsistent is better. Tire pressure, belt slippage, bigger or smaller tires are all variables. But there are also differences in performance on quads of the same model year to year, and even quad to quad. I have the slower of the two 850XP's purchased together, even of the difference is minimal, it's enough to be noticable, and enough for me to be thinking aftermarket exhaust.

yep while top speed isnt a big deal for me either i just want to know its putting out the power its supposed to be. On 27" 589's mine will only do around 60 on a dirt road. never tried on pavement.

my 05 800 stock tires, at 2500 feet. will only go about 62 mph. unless i'm down hill.
as far as I know it isn't hitting a rev limiter. so maybe a clutching change, or simply going to sea level maybe it would break 65 mph.

with the stock 489's I would hit 70 mph on the speedo no problem. On GPS it was 67-68mph.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Concerning the tire size questions I'm running 26" Mudlites. The tires are the only thing aftermarket on the quad. For everyones information I called my dealer about this and after he called Polaris he tells me the touring model has a lower gear ratio than the standard 800 since it's supposed to haul more weight. Apparently Polaris says the 2 up machines should be in the 55-60mph range and the standard 800 is in the 60-65mph range. I don't know that I believe his explanation. If the RZRS is rated by Polaris to run 63mph my machine should be able to do that easily. As for the questions about why I need to go that fast, well... it's my perogative. Actually I used to ride a Banshee years ago, so I still like to rip it up every once in a while. However, I needed a 2 up machine so I can leagally ride my 3yr old son with me according to the rules at a lot of parks. And just to squelch any other of subject replies, I'm obviously not pushing the machine that hard when he's riding with me.

The machine is a bone stock 07 with single exhaust FYI.
Were you hurt when your bike fell off that cliff?

thats odd cuz with my 700 EFI acording to my spedo I can hit 72 mph running flat. but on the GPS it hit 68 mph. Is the 700 just as fast as the 800???

I think for Polaris safety reasons the top speeds are usually about the same. But the 800 normally gets there a little faster.
