Default shifter linkage boot

I have a 2000 325 magnum, I replaced the shift boot and I thought I only had 2 springs but apparently I have 3. I have two long ones that I know where they go but the smaller spring has me stumped. I know it must control the function to keep the selector in high because it justs slips right out. Will someone please help me. I will post pictures if there needed.

p.s. I looked at the stupid parts manual pages to order parts. IT DOESN'T HELP

The small centering spring sits in the right side recess of the shift box (as you are sitting on machine looking at shifter) and in neutral when you push lever to right and let off,the lever should return to center.
