Default 1995 big boss 6x6 awd problem

Hello!

I bought a 1995 400 big boss recently and after fixing some starter problems I am going to try to fix the AWD wich is not working.

I tried to search this great forum but could not find the help I was looking for.

My problem is that the 6wheel drive won`t engage. I have checked the ings in the front tires but that is not the problem.
The speedo is missing completly, I read that in newer polaris the AWD is connected to the speedo.

1. Does anyone know where I should start looking?
2. Is the speedo connected to the AWD on 1995 Big Boss

Thanks in advance and sorry if don`t make any sense (I am from Sweden)

welcome to the forum from far away. always good to see members from far and abroad. the speedo's on the older modles don't effect the awd like the newer ones and the newer bikes have a differnt type of awd all together. not very familar w/ the 6x6's, but belave it's the same front wheel drive system which uses the hubs. did you check to make sure there is power going down the armature plates? sometimes servicing the hubs make a differnce in cleaning and replacing the hub fluid. does the rear drive system work ok?

The rear drive system works fine and if I drive up in loose gravle and try to engage the AWD I can fell it trying to engage.

I will check the fluid and armature plate later tonight.

Thanks for the fast reply.

i would replace the fluid no matter what as you most likely don't know when,if ever, it has been done. the fluid might be the only issue it has. good luck.

There was hardly any fluid left. I contacted my local polaris dealer and he would sell me a bottle for a very high price in my opinion.
Is there any other than original polaris oil I can use.

you don't want any other fluid for the hubs on a polaris. alot of people have tried differnt types of fluid w/ no good results. i know buying the polaris oil is expensive, but for this application, you do not want to cheap it out as it will effect on how they work.
