Default Need recommendation: how to hold drive clutch still during removal

I have a 1988 Trail Boss 250 2x4, and I am trying to pull the drive clutch off (using a Polaris clutch removal tool threaded into the pulley bolt hole).

Unlike this video:

YouTube - Changeing belt POLARIS ATV

my drive clutch does not simply spin off.

The Haynes manual says "tap" the tool with a hammer to free the clutch, and I did so -- by putting a box end wrench over the head of the removal tool and hitting the other end of the wrench with a mallet. But of course, the clutch simply spins. I can't hold it with my hands and prevent it from spinning either.

Because it does not seem wise to stick a bar or something into the spokes of the clutch assembly for leverage, I am guessing I need to buy a strap wrench or some such to hold the clutch and prevent from spinning.

So: I would like recommendations on what to get -- brand, size, etc. (hopefully something I can get at my local hardware store or Sears, not something I need to order special)

Thanks for any help.

you should use a strap on the outside to hold the clutch from spinning for sure although i have taken off dozens of primarys by slide a WOODEN not metal pole that just fits in between the spider and i use an impack to take it off and it works well. but you do have to be careful not to break the clutch. imo

1/2 inch air impact works the best, I use a wooden hammer handle to hold the clutch
