Default xplorer 250 good starter ATV for my G/F?

Hello All,

I am currently looking for a beginner bike for my G/F. She is 23 years old but is a bit of a lightweight (120-125 lbs. wet)

She has driven my sportsman 500 a few times and its to big for her. She has a hard time steering it, and really isn't safe for her to ride. So I am trying to find a good machine for her. I originally wanted to get her a sportsman 335 or trail boss 325, but i cant find anything decent around here.

I stumbled across a 2001 xplorer 250 for about $1500. Having AWD IS necessary for her so when she gets into some mud, I dont have to get off my quad to get her out lol. But the 2-stroke engine kinda worries me. Is it as worry free as the 4 strokes? What kind of power/speed with this have? I dont want something to fast for her.

Any input?

Thanks!

Don't let the 2 stroke worry you. Nothing wrong with them. Is it as worry free as a 4 stroke, I believe so. If something does go wrong they're generally pretty cheap to fix. Power and speed? With her on that bike she'll leave you in the dust...hope you like her azz cause that's what you'll be seeing. I'd say it's a good starter bike, lighter so she can handle it better. As far as it being "to fast"....she doesn't have to use all the throttle.

maybe look in to buying her a sportsman 300 or hawkeye. 4x4 ATUO trans easy operation and probbly perfect size for her. My old lady is about 115lbs and 5'3" she drives a sportsman 700!!! She NEVER uses the whole thing but she can keep up

had the same isue w/ my wife when she had the sp 450 so i bought her the 08' sportsman 400 HO and it was a world of differnce in the handling department for easier steering. smaller frame and lighter weight bike might be the ticket. imo

I would jump at a good 250 Xplorer. Those little 250s rock.Little clutch work and bang you are smoking the mid sized 4strokes in everything.Try to get it a little cheaper if you can because it probably is due for a topend.Dont worry you can do it yourself for less than $200.
