Pred smoking and knocking

Default Pred smoking and knocking

Hi guys i was fooling with the pred today and im getting an awful ticking noise and its smoking just wondering if theres any info on that??? Some people told me the timing chain will cause that in a polaris but i dont know im new to it but i love it

welcome to the forum. bad valve adjustment? bad oil rings would cause it too smoke. how many miles on the bike?

Not to many my uncles owned it before me.....and they never rode it but ive rode it and it has all the power in the world but it smokes and uses oil it dont leak it. And it makes a ticking noise when it idles but at a constant rev its ok...im stumped cause they said the timing chain will cause that plz help

it could have a loose timing chain and stuck rings to make it do what you mentioned. just a thought though.

I would try adjusting the valves first, they could cause the ticking you describe, but also bad rings could cause the smoking, and I do seem to remember something about the timing chains in predators.

What year is your pred. I may have the service manual

The timing chain needs to be replaced every few years depending on use. Not sure if the preds came with an auto or manual tension adjuster. My DVX has an auto tension adjuster so when it starts making noise I kjnow it's due for a cam chain. I agree witht he others on checking the valve clearance and sounds like it may have bad rings(smoking). Pretty good sign if it's burning oil.
