2 stroke polaris xplorer crank
#1
I've traded around and ended up with a pretty good looking polaris xplorer 400 2 stroke. The motor is seized up. The piston and jug is bad, I think the oiler quit working. After I got the jug off, the crank is hard to turn over like the bearings are bad. What does this have to do with the oiler? Is there oil in the bottom just for the crank? If I change the bearings and seals should the rest of the bottom be alright?

Unlike a 4 stroke, a two stroke does not have an oil sump. It is lubed by the oil in the fuel or in your case an auto oiler.
To replace the big end bearing you need to split the crank halfs. This takes special equipment to do.

So there is no oil level to check in the bottom end? The oil in the fuel keeps the main bearings cool right? The big end bearing is good just the mains are locked up. So... if I do away with the oiler and mix my own fuel it'll be good from now on.

you do have counterbalancer ,that is driven by the crankshaft gear, that has it's own oil sump(holds 4 ounces).the counterbalancer has it's own bearings and seals that need looked at too. the dipstick for it ,is at the rear of the engine.

Cool. I got it apart and see the water pump bearing and the countershaft gears have their own oil. The main bearings get their oil from the oil in the fuel right? Or does the oiler split going to the carb and to the mains?
