Default 700 EFI clutch kit suggestions

Hey folks,

We recently picked up a 2004.5 Sportsman 700 EFI. It's all stock with 600 miles, only aftermarket part is 27x10x12 tires on ITP aluminum wheels on all 4 corners.

Top end on this machine is great, but I find the bottom end grunt to be lacking with these taller tires.

I've been searching and reading about all the various clutch kits available for Polaris 700s, there's a ton of info out there!

Anyhow I'm wondering if any of you have 700s that you've installed clutch kits on and would recommend. I don't want to buy the wrong kit for these big tires.

Heel Clicker, Dalton, EPI, High Lifter - they all seem to make kits for the 700EFI with larger tires. Of course, each of them thinks their kit is the cream of the crop.

What do you guys recommend?

Tight, technical trails littered with tree branches, mud holes, and slow pace (5-20mph) riding comprise most of my riding time. Top end is not really a concern for me, I'm more interested in having tons of pulling and low end torque available on the tight trails and plenty of midrange for muddy hills.

Thanks a lot for any help, I need a clutch kit badly...lol!

dalton and epi kits are both a sponsor of our sight and are good kits. i have a dalton spring in my 800 w/ 27" tires and like it just fine. imo

Help from a fellow Mainer, what are the odds!

Thanks Stendori. I like the looks of the EPI big tire kit, may go with that and a more aggressive helix as well. The 700 has an extremely mild helix it seems, so I think even with the 27s it will benefit acceleration to move to a slightly more aggressive one.

Cheers.

Thanks Hurly, I appreciate the reply. EPI has a great reputation, it's just so hard to decide when you're reading through 5000 different forum threads...lol.

Need to pick one and install it, then I'll be happy. Until then I'll drive myself insane checking every available option...

real easy install... you need a clutch puller though. I upgraded the helix on mine too.

Had an EPI on my 05 800 and the EPI for my 09 800HO should be here any day. Really liked it on my last ride. As for install, check with your local dealer. I didn't want to bother with buying clutch tools so I had them do it and they only charged me @ $80. Probably get it done even cheaper this time because they want to display my machine with the tracks on it(and listen to the HSP duals I'm sure) for a few days.

Heel Clicker! Fully adjustable and no clutch tools required. It really brought back the low end grunt.

just remember it's possiable to loose top end when you gain a good lower take off. make sure to keep the stock top rpm' sor you will be loosing power on the high end. imo
