Default Gear Selector Oil

Again I did a search but it won't allow me to search "oil" as it is too common of a word....

What weight oil should I put in my gear selector? I have a 2000 Sportsman 500. I believe I remember reading 30wt but wanted to make sure. Thanks for any help guys/gals.

Just use the same oil you use in your engine...do not overfill...

Yes, that's what the manual says. I believe the engine oil [0W40] is a bit too thin.

Yeah, I thought I read that somewhere. Thanks. I ended up putting the 30wt oli I have for my lawnmower :-). Bad news is I found a broken pin dowel while in there. Good news I didn't find out about it on the trail haha.

Seems like everything I "look at" needs a part. rofl. Gotta love Polaris.

After looking at the broken dowel pin again (it centers the shift lever) I got looking around the garage. Found a old door pin from our house door hinge assembly which, was pretty damn close in pin diameter. I decided to cut it to length and round the edges with my grinder. Worked like a charm. The OEM one is still on the way so I'll have a spare now.

Figured I'd post this in the event someone searches this thread two years from now and could use this info. lol
