Default How do you set float on 2001 Mikuni carb?

Have a 2001 Yamaha Big Bear 2WD with some carb issues. Bought it a few months back and it has always had issues with fuel running out of overflow. It acts as though the needle valve was stuck open, or floats were fuel-logged, or float set too high. Just took the carb apart and replaced needle and seat and alll other parts in kit. From my own general mechanical experience, it seems to me the float is set too high. If I were to guess, I would say the float should be level, or parallel with the bowl mounting surface, when the needle is closed. This one is not.

Any help would be appreciated.

Default Gonna answer my own question

After reading many questions and answers about carb settings I may have answered my own question. The 13 mm float setting I have seen on several posts equates to .51 inches. After checking this on my carburetor, it equates to the float being level with the bowl mounting surface, as I originally suspected. So, right or wrong, I set my float at that level, which is .51 inches, and should have the carb mounted later this afternoon.

91warrior, your the man. People like pictures. Its one thing to tell someone the setting or measurement for something but when pictures are thrown in the mix everything is crystal clear. Your awesome. my timberwolf has to have setting of 21mm on float and i didn't know exactly where to measure it...after this pic and the directions other people gave me...i put two and two together. Hopefully it will crank this morning.
