Default W. Va Trip March 19

Well, finally getting around to posting up some pictures from my trip to West Virginia a couple of weekends ago. First long trip with the 850 and the for the zillas as well.

Both performed great, other than needing an inch or 2 more ground clearence, the zillas were very impressive. The EPS is amazing and my arms never got tired. Just wish Polairs could have snuck the 5.25 gal tank on the EPS units, the little 4.5gal tank sucks big time.

The only complaints i really had was the front end seemed to dip really bad at speeds when cornering or hitting the brakes. The front is turned up 3 clicks, the rear 1 click. The thumb throttle is extremely uncomfortable for any extended rides or when going up steep grades that are very rocky. The small gas tank. Other than that, I was very happy with the machine and the tires.

Now on to the pics:

Wow nice pics. When you say it was a little rocky do you mean it was top heavy? I know what you mean about the throttle in the few miles i put on mine it just dosent feel right. Im headed to Tennessee again this year and my concerns are the throttle and the amount of gas it seems to suck down.
Ive owned 04 700 efi 07 800 efi and they both liked the gas but not like this one. Maybe it will get better after break-in.

What i was talking about is that i just couldnt get my thumb comfortable on the throttle while bouncing all over a rocky road. no i didnt think the 850 was top heavy at all.

the 850 is quite a bit harder on gas then the 05 700 and my 08 800 but it is 167cc larger than the 700 and 90cc larger than the 800 so sucking gas is in its nature. it wasnt to bad, another .75 gal of gas would be nice though.

I know what you are saying about the gas thing! GOOD NEWS though if you get the right NKG spark plug you may burn less as the plug burns hotter. I have a friend from work with an 06 SP800 that we all went to Hatfield and McCoy last year and he swears by it!

Was that a HM trail system? If so which one? Looks a little like Gilbert, we hit Little Coal River last year (tamest of them all I hear)

Cheers,

R'

Hmmm Interesting, i might have to look into that. When i get some extra coin im going to get one of the flat pack fuel containers. Just need to see what it will take to paint it black, cant have a beautiful black 850 with a big red thing on LOL.

No. My buddy and his family i ride with don't ride HM. His parents have a Rhino and HM i guess has limited SXS trials right now. Plus you have to pay.

This is at Wagon Wheel, well not exactly wagon wheel, but the trail systems around Wagon Wheel. They change so often its hard to keep track where you are at.

Sure hope that wasn't the tamest of them all. Thems some deep a$$ mud pits for the "tame" category.

Cool, where at in WVA is Wagon wheel?

FR, I am only reporting what I have heard. I mean when I hit Little Coal River, it was the toughest trail system I had ever experienced. I hear Little Coal is a cake walk compared to Pinnacle Creek, Bearswallow, Rockhouse and some of them are NOT for the faint of heart.
Supposedly some of the toughest trails in North America.

I can say this from experience is that alot of them are deep rutted, steep, washed out etc. When you ride them you get the feeling they are never maintenanced but I am sure somebody goes and cuts and removes fallen trails etc. If you like the mountains and hill climbing and the challenge of whether you will make it or NOT, then HM is for you! Especially the Black trails.

I found after I broke away from my adreniline buddys and moved off the Black trails to do the green trails, the trails presented themselves with a more open ride, comfort and more scenic. I wish I had hit the green trails first but for the ELITE they go straight Blue to Black. -- Done with that, no more Life and Death Hill climbs for me, I learned my lessons painfully I may add, but whatever works for you!

Regards,

R'
