Do your wife and kids already know how to ride? If not it's a pretty fast machine to be learning on.

Yes, they know how to ride. My kids have been on these things since they were 7 and 8. My wife is no speed demon but she enjoys putting around.

Honestly, the Renegade is usually bought by people wanting the fastest 500 4x4 out there. The buy it for speed and drive it for speed. It's a great mix of 4wd and fun. That's why my son went from a Polaris ATP (read as utility quad with a big U) to a Renegade. I don't know if I would buy one with 3000 miles unless it was owned by someone who didn't thrash it. A Can-Am Outlander 500 with the same mileage would probably not be driven as hard. Another thing to check is the main spar frame that goes down the middle of the quad. It's the biggest weakness in an otherwise great quad. Just some thoughts.

Moose, sounds good. I will ask the hard questions. I did ask the owner about the high miles but was told that they are street legal in Montana. Thus the high usage. He did say they went through the original tires by "smoking them off". So, I realize its been "ridden". i will ask for a pic of the main beam. i have a outlander 800 so, I know what to look for on the I-beam. Thanks

So he rode it on pavement, and then smoked the original tires off???

I wouldn't go near it. It may be legal to ride an atv on public streets in montana- but these atv's really aren't designed to be ridden on pavement for long periods.
Doing "donuts" and smoking the tires on pavement puts a ton of stress on the drive train. I wouldn't care what he had for records or how nice it looks- a 3000 mile atv that has seen some hard pavement time in my book = beat!
