Question Need Help with 2001 Polaris Magnum 325 Clutch/Transmission

Hello, I'm new the the forum here but could really use some help as I don't know much about centrifugal clutch systems. I have a 2001 Polaris Magnum 325 2x4. I just rebulit the carb and runs great. However when I put it into gear reverse, high or low it moves just only goes about 5mph. Does anyone know why it won't go any faster? It revs fine as high as I want it to, just when I put in gear I can't go very fast at all. Any help would be great thanks!

Have you pulled the clutch cover and done an inspection? Look at your belt for excessive wear, check play or slop in the components of your clutches. With cover off try revving the engine in nuetreul and see how the clutches are working. It could be somthing as simple as a completely shot belt. Keep us updated on your progress so other members can throw some insight your way.

check the condtion of the belt and make sure the clutches are engaging all the way(in and out while in neutral) and the belt should be setting a little above the secondary(transmission)clutch while at rest. if these are all fine then remove the secondary clutch and check the clutch buttons(ramps) that the helxi slides on to see if there warn out which will make it act the way you mentioned.

Yea yesterday I pulled the cover and the belt is practically new. And let me make sure I have come terminology correct here before I go into the next statement. If I've read correctly after 3-4hrs of internet searching. the Front clutch is also called the drive cluch or primary clutch and the rear clutch is called the driven clutch or secondary? If that's correct when I start it up rev it in neutral the clutch toward the front of the clutch goes in partially and out with ease, or so it would appear. The rear clutch I didn't know was supposed to go in and out as well, but I don't think it moved at all. Which I will be pulling apart as soon as I'm done typing! I did take apart the front clutch spring looks good, the dog eared things looks good (pn: 3069924-001) I greased those screws the rotate on because they the were pretty rusted.

Also this quad has been sitting for a couple years so a lot of rust a lot of places. (if there is a common transmission part that can easily stick) Thanks again for all the help!

Looks like your on the right track. And yes, as your primary clutch(front) engages and begins to squeeze the belt causing it to start riding higher as the rpms increase. The secondary should start to open up allowing the belt to start dropping down.

OKay got it all back together, the secondary clutch was stuck together. So now in neutral the primary clutch engages fully and the secondary disengages fully. However now when I ride it, it does move a little faster but both clutches aren't engaging and disengaging fully.... so still some lack of full speed.

Also this is a dumb question but is there a radiator cap on these? And how do you know if you have EBS?

No rad cap. Those are oil/air cooled. There will be a oil cooler up front where the rad should be. Now that you've got the clutches working, Does the machine have the proper belt on it. And how fast are you going. Those machines are tanks but they only top out at 35-40mph. stock
