Default Ignition coil: Can the wire be replaced?

I just picked up a 1998 Polaris Xpress 300 on the cheap from a kid in my neighborhood who rode it hard and knew nothing of maintenance. Amazingly the quad is in good mechanical shape even though it was abused. The kid sold it to me because it wouldn't start and he knows nothing about engines. I checked it out and found there was no spark. After troubleshooting I came to the conclusion that the spark plug wire is bad.

My question is as follows: Is it possible to change the wire on the coil, or do I have to get an entirely new coil?

If I do need to purchase a coil, what are the alternatives to the expensive OEM part? Can I just pick up any old ignition coil for 12v ATV use or do I need to get a specific aftermarket part?

Thanks for the help.

I replaced mine while chasing a no spark problem. Used 8MM wire from auto parts store and it kinda screw into the coil and the spark plug boot.
