Default buying 1st touring or X2 800

I'm new to the forum and am looking for some advice. I have a Polaris Ranger XP but I'm looking to add a two passenger ATV to the family. I have a bead on a 2008 800 Touring and a 2009 800 X2. Both are new and greatly discounted. The 2008 touring costs about $350 less than the 2009 X2, so really they are close enough to the same price. What I'm looking for is an ATV that me and my son can spend hours riding on. I believe they are pretty much the same machine, and I really don't need the dump bed/hauler mode of the X2 because I have the Ranger to do that kind of stuff. What do you guys think I should get? I'm really torn between both of them.

So the touring is less cash, has a more comfy 2nd seat and you have no desire for the X2's dump bed......

What am I missing here? Seems like a no-brainer to me....

welcome to the forum. i would go w/ the touring as it sounds like that bike will fit your needs more. just beware that the 800's run hot on the right side at the leg area to where shorts is out of the question to wear.

The Touring is much more comfortable for the passenger than the X2. I would go that route if you already have a Ranger.

Well I just was just trying to make sure I was considering all of the options. I have not driven the X2, and really don't know much about it. It certainly has a "transformer" cool factor to it.

Your over looking the biggest selling factor of the X2 in my mind the TURF mode is the reason I got my X2

I too have a Ranger and the 800 X2 Sportsman; the wife and I have really found the bed compartment to be a solid value, as when I don't ride with her, the dog gets to go a long!! In addition, handling the cooler and Gas cans when we dirtbike is a bonus. Yah, turf mode is nice, but I don't use the pull behind mowers (Swishers) for that, I tag those behind the Cub Cadet

It surprises me the Touring doesn't have Turf Mode. It's a nice feature in tight spots. The 2-up machines have a good sized turning radius. The only other reasons I bought the X2 were that they didn't have the Touring at the time and the 400 lb. rated rear springs. But, you nullify the need for that with the Ranger.

The touring does have a turf mode. It's just right of the speedo. Check out the vide from ATV television. ATV Shows

Ah, I was looking at the newer Touring model with XP chassis. It's a nice feature. You can still tear up the lawn but it will be only the inside tire. If you go easy and don't have super aggressive tires it's not bad on the grass. If you don't need the dump bed, I'd go with the Touring.
