LT80 Oil Injector
#1
Has anyone actually had these fail? How often are they going bad? Is there a way to test it? I just got done rebuilding my top end, I and I'm not really interested in doing it again anytime soon. Are a lot of people running these? I understand the risk of it failing, but what are the odds? My dad has a Suzuki outboard that has ran the same oil injector since 1984 and it never failed.
Mine is a 2005 KFX80. If I wanted to run premix, I would remove the pump key inside the clutch cover, and then block which line? Would it be easier to just block off the whole hole and plug the port on the carb?

I know I'll probably get blasted for this, but I'm surprised you haven't gotten 15 or 20 posts telling you to dump that "evil" injector and start premixing. That set up is pretty bullet proof, the old 87 LT80 I got my son is still running today for someone else's boy with the same "unreliable" injector still puttering away. A lot has to do with basic maint, keep the tank full, monitor the level, if it goes low or empty, just filling it will not always reprime the system, and the line will be airlocked, motor burns up, and it is easier to blame the injector than admit to letting the tank go empty. If it sits for a long time, pull the line and make sure the oil flows before running it. Racers and engine modders have a valid reason for going to premix, they often exceed the capabilities of the factory set up, and need to protect higher output engine parts, but for the daily trail rider, I have never seen the need to do away with a reliable , convient system like the injector on the LT80 quad. Keep the tank full of a good syn or syn blended injector oil ( I always liked Yamalube 2S) and just put gas in and go have fun.
