Default 08 Big Bear IRS Rear Brake Help Needed

I got into the mud and burned out my rear brakes. The brakes are wet brakes built into the rear differential. I need to know how big of job to remove the rear differential and then take it apart to replace the brake disks and plates.

Thanks

Did you try adjusting the brakes before you tear into them? Did you make sure when you apply the brakes that the cable is moving at the back of the bike? Doesn't seem like you would "burn up" brakes in the mud. Maybe there is a cable or adjustment issue? If you go to partshark.com you can download a service manual for that machine. It might help you when you start working on it!

Default Wet Brake

I would agree...check the adjustment...is it not working or working too well? I have had my big bear in a share of mud and have not had it affect rear braking at all. The two wing nuts on the top of the differential are adjustment points. The top one controls the hand brake and the lower one controls the foot brake. Right tightens and left loosens the brakes. Check both independently b/c one does not affect the other. One of the benefits of the wet brake is its effectiveness in mud...should not wear unless the parking brake was locked on or something crazy like that!

Me to, thats the whole point of the wet brake enclosed system, the brakes are never are exposed to dirt or mud.
