Please...Need Help Removing Sportsman 450 Fuel Tank
#1
I need some some detailed instructions on ..How to remove my fuel tank on my 2006 Polaris Sportsman 450 4x4.
While riding right around the house, a 2' long stick jammed up thru the bottom of the frame and busted the whole bottom of my fuel tank. I've ordered another fuel tank off of Ebay with sensor, fuel petcock, & cap for $49.95 used, off of a 2007 SPortsman 450 with 78 miles on it. So much cheaper than the $271 for a new one from Polaris.
So far I've removed the seat, air box lid with the O.E.M. air intake tube, and the 4 bolts at the rear of the fuel tank.
What do I need to remove in order to get the fuel tank out from under the yellow plastic covering the top of the tank ?/
Please try and explain in detail the next steps to remove this fuel tank. I am pretty mechanically inclined on cars & dirt bikes, but this is my very first ATV & I've only owned it about 6 weeks & I'm kinda puzzled.
Thanks in advance for any replies I receive !

Well I don`t know if I can help you but with my 99 sportsman I had to remove the front plastics heres what I did, loosen the front bumper (so the front rack frame would tilt away), remove the front rack (plastic part)take off the speedo pod, undo the all the bolts that hold on the front plastics, undid the handle bars so they would fit between the hood opening when I lifted the plastics clear of the gas tank, removed the 2 gas lines from the tank and undid the 2 bolts holding the tank in place. it wasn`t that hard just a major pain in the rear
Not sure if yours is the same but hope this helps.
I had to undo the handle bars because the winch power lines were attached to the front rack and I thought it would be easier than undoing the winch

Thanks for the info.
I think my 2006 Sportsman is a little differant. I left it at my parent's until the new/used tank was delivered & last night my dad said he had removed the front fenders/rack assembly & had gotten to the tank, but he thought he was going to have to remove the left floorboard to get the tank out.

I just hope he knows where everything goes back. Here lately he's got a tend to forget where everything goes.
Anone else with any suggestions ???
