Default tighten chain on 98 scrambler 400

so the book i have on it covers every quad from 90's to 2000 so i have no idea if what im reading applies to my quad, what it says is to compress the rear suspension with packing straps till the transmission output the swing arm and rear sprocket are level (how??? they arent inline with eachother)

so does anyone have a easier way to do it?

a ratcheting strap on the axle and on the push bar. crank it down until the swingarms are about level or in a straight line with the footwells or frame. take a picture with the suspension fully compressed, the machine looks goofy as he****

With My Polaris Magnum, I put a rider who is about the same weight as me on the atv and tighten the chain, leaving between 1/2-1 inch of slack in the chain.
