I just purchased a 2004 Polaris ATP 500 H.O. with about 2000 miles on it.
The previous owner said it has had a hard life working on the pipe line.
I would like to revive this machine by giving it a little TLC.

My only problem with the machine is this....
It idles great... but when you give it throttle it dies.
If you give it throttle while pulling out the choke it runs fine.

I have changed the following:
Air Filter
Plugs

He said that it started acting that way after he backed it out of the garage while pushing the reverse over-ride button. He had been pushing snow for 3 hours prior without any problems.

 

I'm not that good at carbs. You can find a manual on eBay. That's where I got ours when I had an ATP.

 

sounds like the pilot jet in the carb is plugged, also spray some carb cleaner around the boot that goes from the carb to the engine if the idle speeds up or slows down the boot is cracked , sucking air,l

 

Time for a carb cleaning by the sounds of things. If you have have a hard time finding a manual on a ATP just get one on a regular 500 H.O, the two share 90% of the same parts.
