I have an aluminum grab bar that I want to have polished to a mirror-like shine, but I don't have the time or the right materials to do the job. Some things are simpler to pay to have done than to do them yourself if you're busy. I'm not sure if there are places local that do this kind of work? How would I find a local place? The yellow pages was no help. If there are companies that do polishing of ATV parts regularly then maybe I can just ship the grab bar to them?

Scooby:

Look in the Yellow Pages under "Plating," or "Metal." You should be able to locate a business that has the buffing machines to do your polishing.

Good luck!

Another option here is to find a respectable young kid that is in a mechanics or metal working class at school and needs $30. Tell them that if they do a really good job you will throw in a extra $20 or something. Works out good for the both of you, he gets a project at school, $30-50 and you get your bumper polished while helping out one of the neighborhood kids.. This method works great for getting the lawn mowed too..

I can't see paying someone more than about $10 to polish a grab bar. It only takes 5 minuites on an industrial polisher.

I used to have the polish guys that hang around truck stops do the rims and fuel tanks on my semi, usually was about $5 a wheel and $10 a tank. They usually work out of a van or something, they would polish practically anything aluminum, most of them do a good job, use jewelers rouge with a high speed buffer, then hand polish with Blue Magic or Mothers. That grab bar wouldn't cost more than $5 bucks to polish.
There are 2 truck stops I used to go to often by you, the Flying J and the Pilot, they are on the S side of Dallas by Hutchins. One of them used to have polish people hanging around, I havn't been down there in over 2 yrs, so I have no idea which one it was. Hope this helps, Bryan

I do my own aluminum polishing and it really isn't that easy. Before polish the metal, you have to sand it smooth in order to get a mirror like smooth shine. I have polished 3 engines and about 100 other miscellaneous parts on my fourwheelers and it's not easy. One engine takes about 50 hours to complete. I tried to polish my grab bar and bumper without sanding first and it doesn't work. I don't see how anyone could polish a grab bar for $5. I wouldn't do it for less than $30. Good luck
