Default 03 Polaris 600 twin 4x4

I just picked up a 2003 Polaris 600 twin. 230 hrs 1350 miles, Came with an electric 35 gallon sprayer, and a strap on luggage rack with a seat, for 3300 did I pay too much? Plus I just noticed it is banging into gear taking off, The driveshaft has very little play in it. The noise sounds like its comming from the rear case. What is the popping noise?

If its popping its probably a cv joint in one of the axles, look for torn boots, jack it up on jack stands and spin tires , youll find it

Default 2003 sportsman banging rear end

I checked the boots, no cracks. It does not do it after you shift from nuetral, just when there is no strain on the gearbox and you punch it. you heaar aa pop, or clunk before it takes off. How much play should the drive shaft have i've got about an 1/8 in. which doesnt seem like too much.

My 700 twin cluncks as well, I'm told its normal, its kind of annoying expecially when your rock crawling as it clunks back and forth, normal riding I only hear it when I go from Neutral to reveres or revers to neutral

I think you misunderstood. It does NOT do it when changing gears (N to H ) it does it when power is first applied from a stand still. If you keep pressure on like a slow roll...and apply power there is no clunk, or pop.

What your talking about sounds normal. My 500 does this as well but it's not real noticeable unless I've shifted gears from reverse to low or high. There is a touch of freeplay in the gears to keep things from binding. But, like mentioned before, jack it up on stands and look for other things like the cv joints to be sure.
