I'm going in to lighten the rear clutches and have the cover off. I want to confirm bolt direction before throwing the impact wrench on. The front and rear bolts are both 17mm and I recall someone saying the rear is a left hand thread??

 

The 2- 17mm nuts are right handed thread.
After the rear clutch is off, you'll be taking the big nut off to get the shoes off the post. That's left handed.

 

Thanks as always! Got the clutch assembly off with no problems. It looks like the previous owner has already been into the clutch. THe screws (why did they use screws???) holding the roller assembly are pretty stripped out

The clutch shoes also look pretty worn. Going to go ahead and replace.

 

Ya, I put hex head bolts in.

 

When in doubt bust the dremel out

The inside looks like a bomb went off. Can't tell if its dried up grease or the rollers are fried. Lots of dust caked on everything...

 

Looks like dust from destroyed plastic that surrounds the metal bushing that makes up the weights. Never saw one quite that bad, a good cleaning and some new weights and you should be good to go.

Usually both.
Make sure the tracts that the rollers run in are not grooved and uneven.

 

WHere is a good place to pickup new rollers and rear clutch shoes?

 

I got new ones from the Suzuki dealer when I owned an LT80 years, back, then weighed and measured them, and made my own plastic bushings on a lathe for spares over the years. Dont know of too many aftermarket replacements, unless Dennis Kirk or Parts Unlimited would have them.
