What is the best beginner sports ATV?

Fast 400-500cc beginner quad = oxymoron. There isn't a 400-500cc sport quad made that was intended for a beginner.
Maybe you should start with your age, experience and intended use.

I think a 400ex is tame enough for a beginner, even someone pretty young, and has alot of potential, however Someone saying they're a beginner and want a FAST one is not too good. Be sure to get riding gear especially a helmet.

I agree with the first 3 posts 100%
go grab yourself a 250ex, automatic with reverse- there's a lot more to atv'in then hitting a throttle, and a 400ex is not a good beginner atv (unless you're familiar with clutching) with the 5sp clutch and peppy motor- or even look at a 300ex if you really want a clutch-
