What kind of ramps
#1
Just bought a polaris 550 touring and was wondering what kind of ramps everyone was using to load in the back of their trucks. I have a stock 2009 chevy silverado. I have a ramp that comes apart in three sections right now and the outside ramps say 600lbs max. I know the quad weighs more than that but i am using both ramps so should i be ok with this? I did unload it last night with the ramps but also had a good decline so it wasn't nearly as step as on level ground. Just don't want to crash on an upload or download. Any inputs would help thanks.

HUH??? I would guess that is supposed to say don't want to crash...I would say that you would be good with your ramps!

I like the ramps that are hinged together in some way so they always remain parrallel to each other. I like them to be as long as the truck bed will allow too. That way there is the least amount of incline. The only other thing to make sure of is strapping the ramps to the truck when loading/unloading so they don't come off the tailgate.

I agree the folding ramps are safe, check the load rating Most of them come with pull straps. Cut them off and add good ratcheting straps and really secure them to cargo hold downs. A heavy bike with lots of torque needs tough, very tight and secured strapping while driving up or even offloading. When loaded, strap your bike down tight with lots of straps secured to heavy steel cargo tie downs that are anchored into a frame member. In the case off a bad accident, this prevents the bike from becoming a missle on wheels pointed right at you and your passengers. I always slide the folding ramps under my quad and tie them to the quad so they don't fall out, because I have to leave my tail gate down.

Great info and tips from all the above for sure...My issues with ramps weren't with the ramps coming free of the truck when loading but I had an incident once when loading...The ramps were secured to the truck....As soon as my rear wheels contacted the ramps I kinda came to a stop because I knew that I had to feather the throttle at this point...Well I guess I gave it just a tad too much and the front end jumped off the ramps and the front dif ended up on the right ramp with both front tires off the ramps...Just wanted to share the story...Ramps can be dangerous so be careful at all times...Needless to say I owned a trailer a week later...Good luck and be safe...

i used 2x10's w/ the alum. ends that have the form on the ends to prevent sliding to load all my atvs i had and even the 800(which weighs more then yours) had to issues, so i'm guessing your ramps are fine.
