Default New Wheels & Tires

Hello,

I have a 2009 Polaris Sportsman 800 x2. I am looking at upgrading my wheels and tires. I would like to go with maxxis zillas 2-28-10-12 and 2- 28x12x12 or 2-27-9-12 and 2- 27x11x12 mounted on some ITP wheels. I already purchased some Polaris HD front springs and plan on adjusting my rear spings to their firmest setting. Will the aformentioned wheel tire sets fit without further modifications? What are your thoughts of this set up? The cheapest price I could find for these wheels & tires is from Wild Boar ATV, any comments on WB ATV or reccommedations for a different seller?

Thanks!

the only issue will be clearing the front tie rod ends, not sure on wheel back spacing,or what you would need, the 9x12 on the front would clear better than the 10x12, you can move your tie rods from the top of strut mount to the bottom then re align, then I knoe the 9x12s would work

I think you will be fine for sure with the 27". 28", not sure. My brother-in-law just did 27" Mudlites and 14" ITP on his 500 and they fit fine. You will probably be fine either way as long as the wheel you buy has enough offset. You wont even need to stiffen you springs at all. Another guys on polarisatvforums.com fit 30" silverbacks on his 850 with no rubbing (he did crank his springs), so you should be fine either way. If if it gives you any trouble, wheels spacers is another option.

Here's my '05 400cc with 26" Zillas:

And here's mine again and his '10 500 with the 27" Mudlites, no rubbing at all.

Default 12 or 14 inch wheels?

Thank you for the timely replies. I see that in the second reply, you went with 14 inch tire/wheel. Does this make much of a difference for either application or usage? I thought a larger sidewall (12 inch) would be better for the bumps and all too possible rocks.

I'm not sure, the thicker sidewall might be better for rocks and stuff. We don't do long rides at a time (maybe 20 miles at a time). I go for more of looks. I like the bigger wheel and less rubber filling in the wheel well. For me, I can't tell much of a difference from the stock 12" wheels. I can only tell the difference because of the much better tires.

Here is the post from polarisatvforums.com. His is an '11 850XP, so I don't know what the difference is in your suspensions, but these are 30" silverbacks with no rubbing. he just cranked his shocks. It's a little too much for me, but damn it looks mean. So depending on the offset of the wheels and judging by this, either of your options would fit fine.

Here's a couple of pix of her sitten on the 30s. There's no rubbing and all ive done is crank the shocks up. Im adding the High lifter 3" lift next week just to give me more ground clearance.

Ebay has some good deals too and most sellers have machine specific kits so the rims will have the proper offset to avoid rubbing/tierod issues. Most folks are going to 14" because of the bling factor but they do have the advantage of reducing weight since you have less tire mass. I ran 14's on my last 800sp and currently on my RZR and see no negative effects of having less tire so far.
