welcome to the forum. seems to me if the choke was sticking on (assuming thats what you mean by going bad)it wouldn't want to idle good as it would be flooding out the engine. does it rev up good in neutral and only lack power when youput it in gear and throttle it? is it bogging out, or rev up fine but doesn't sem to want to move? wondering it it could a belt/clutch issue?

Yeah the idle was really bad it would not stay running and would not start unless I took off the air filter and covered it a lil and then it would start but not stay idling unless my hand was covering it a lil and gas would come out the carb were the air filter connects too it was like that until I did a major carb cleaning now it starts up fine and the idle is a lil rough it seems to have power when u first give it gas but then it drops really low after like 10-20 feet and as for putting it n gear there is not one on this model

Run a compression check. Sounds like it is time to do a top end (new piston and ring). Look at a Wiesco as a better than stock brand for a piston.

been waiting a long time for this post!have been having same problem for months.same machine.here is what i have tried.new plug,filters(air/fuel),new carb, fuel lines, removed and cleaned tank, new throttle cable, new stator, new jug, head, piston, rings, crank seals, reed cage.110 psi compression.switched cdi with known working one.none of the above worked.now for what did work!this is no joke.i stuck a piece of rubber hose in the air intake tube on top of the air filter to reduce the amount of air to the carb.been working great for about a month now.
