Default 2004 Sportsman High Gear Problem

Hi there, I have a 2004 Sportsman 600 with a transmission issue that I'm hoping someone knows the answer to. When shifting into high range it seems to go in okay but when hitting the throttle I just get a grinding noise. If it does go in it stays in but getting it to go in is troublesome. I pulled the tranny and took the cover off. The engagement dog for high gear appears to be okay. Looking at the 29 tooth (high?) gear I have a question. The teeth where the dog engage are slightly angled on one side of each one. On the other side they are more steeply angled and appear to be chipped off but not sure... Are they supposed to have an angle on both sides of the teeth? Is this what's causing the grinding? Also, the shift fork seems to "rock" slightly on the shaft that goes through it. Should the fork fit snugly onto the shaft or should there be play? Would the play cause partial engagment? Anyone have a picture of a "good" gear? Appreciate any help, Thanks!

welcome to the forum. did you try adjusting the shifting linkage first to see if was going on the way in high or you sure it was all the way lock in? just a thought.

Thanks, and yes, I did check the linkage adjustment and it was moving all the way to the high position...
