Default Anybody ever fab your own winch bumper?

I have an 03 Kawasaki 250 Bayou. I would like to put a winch on the front, but for the life of me can't find a winch mount plate anywhere. Has anybody ever fabbed their own winch mount plate or bumper? I would much appreciate input (and especially pictures )

I thought about it, but by the time you by the steel and do all the work, its not worth the $50 it cost's to buy one. (There are a LOT of good deals on the Internet.)

There are a lot of companies making winch mounts. If you post what make and model winch you have and if your Bayou is a 2X4 or a 4X4, somebody will most likely chime in and tell you where to get what you need.

Thank you guys. I kept seeing mounts for the Bayou 300 4X4. Mine is the 250 2X4. Somehow I glossed over the two results for the 250 on ebay. You weren't kidding, they are Freakin' Expensive! Back to the drawing board......

Yes its just a plate of steel with drilled holes to mount the winch studs to, the trick is to mount the plate to something to the ATV so the plate and winch will not come out of the mud hole before the ATV does.

Here's a pic of a home made mounting plate on a 500 Scrambler we made up. We chose the ATV Bumper which connects to the ATV's frame.

Looks like your Scrambler had the perfect spot to tuck a winch away. I'm sure I'll figure something out. My Brother is a pretty decent welder. Here's the winch I'm looking at: ATV WINCH 2000LB BRAND NEW WATERPROOF KIT RT 2000 LB - eBay (item 390274121117 end time Mar-22-11 10:10:42 PDT)

The winch only tells you where to drill the holes into the plate. Just make sure the plate is fastened to something strong on the bike. Good luck.

OH BTW , I find the lower the winch can be mounted the better, they seem to to haul you out of a holes easier than high mounted winches.

Really? I'm planning to mount mine high enough to avoid water for the most part, but not on top of the front rack. Have you ever had any problems with getting the winch on your Scrambler too soaked/muddy?
