Default 02 Sportsman 500 fuel problem

Hi everyone, I have a 02 sportsman 500 and it seems like it dosen't get enough gas to make it go. it started to happen this fall and keep getting worst. Today I checked the fuel lines to the carb and it seems to be getting plenty from both lines. it will idle but when I give it gas it stalls. If I spray a little fuel into the carb ( I took my air box off to do this )it will rev up fin. I think it might be the diapham or something like that. any help on this would be great. Thanks

I would drain the fuel tank and clean the carburetor. Make sure the jets are clear. I have been tricked a few times with bad gasoline. High test has better shelf life.

welcome to the forum. by any chance has the carb been cleaned? did the bike sit for long periods w/ old gas that is turned bad? if it seems to run better w/ the choke pulled then it indeed is running lean from lack of gas. may be blockage in the carb it self. maybe fuel filter(if there is one) is partly plugged. a couple of ideas.

Ditto on the other posts. After cleaning and replacing anything needed run some seafoam in the tank every so often. Stuff works wonders. Also, how long does it sit and what grade gas do you use? Highly recommend using the higher grade non-oxygenated fuel and I always use fuel stabilizer in the gas for my atv's and lawn equipment. The distributors are putting less additives in the gas to save $ so it doesn't stay fresh as long.

X2 on The Seafoam. Good stuff. Probably wont clean a plugged jet but will help to keep it clear. If you do clean the carb your self make sure to remove the jets to clean.

sounds like pilot jet is plugged , ditto on a thorough carb cleaning and seafoam after you clean it,

Well I drained the fuel and put new gas in and after a minute of running it took right off and no longer bogs down any more. I will be puting some sea foam in it to help it out but I can't beleave that the fuel went bad after 3 months. Thanks for all the help. this fourm ROCKS.
