Default weird thing with my can-am

my outlander was running like **** and popping so i check the valves and the intake had no clearence between the lifters and when they suppose set at at .011 and the exhaust was at .005 when to be at.015 is it possible for for them to tighten up it a 2003 and it only has 4000 miles on it and every mile has been put on in mud and no work has ever been done on the valves any one else over have this happen

4000 miles is well past the brake in period.
With that miliage the valves should have been checked a couple of times by now.
During the brake in period, valve clearence can shrink for the first while when the metal in the valve seat compresses slightly during the brake in period.
The decreased clearence combined with the valve stem exspanding ever so slightly when engine warms up can cause the popping or engine losing enough compression (valves not closing tight) for it to stall and not restart till engine cools down again.
More prevelent in air cooled engines.

I wouldnt think it would have an air mixture screw unless it was an older model.
Any screw on side of carb might be just for idle speed adjustment.
Normally turning screws out will richen the mixture.
It is also very important to have a clean and oiled air filtre.
Running without an air filtre makes the motor run a little lean on a carbed motor.
Once you have re-set the proper valve clearences it should run the way it should,
unless there is another issue with something, like an old sparkplug.
First time doing clearence set valves in the midle of the spec,
then set at the minimum after that.
Some makers say to do initial adjustment around 300miles or so.
Your manuel would tell you for sure what the intervals are.

Have you pulled and cleaned the carb with chemical and compressed air?
Hard to say for sure about air mixture.
If it is an air mixture screw ,try after lightly seating screw, backing it out aprox 2 turns and see what difference that makes.
Worse case if turned too far out it will run rich.
Screw should have some "drag" on it when turning out.
If its gets real loose, it may not be a mixture screw.
