remote kill switch, now mini atv wont work! help!

I pushed the remote kill switch button that came with my bmx mini atv just to see how well it worked, well now cant get it going for the life of me. It was running great before i pushed button so i know there is nothing else wrong with it. I looked in owners manual but it dosent even mention the remote in there. The remote looks like a car one, with a lock, unlock, alarm button etc. Please help!

Find the remote receiver module (under the seat usually) and just unplug it. The remote modules usually have a 5 inch (or so) wire dangling out of a connector which is the receive antenna.
Unplugging the remote will disable it completely, though there is one small change in how the quad works: You will not be able to kill the quad engine by shutting off the ignition switch once it starts up. You will have to use the left handlebar kill switch instead. Other than that everything else will work the same (except the remote control functions of course).
Also, please describe what "cant get it going for the life of me" means. Starter doesn't crank? Starter cranks but engine doesn't start? Engine starts but doesn't run right? Please be as specific as you can

LynnEdwards- thanks for the tip, I tried it but still nothing. I'll give the the run down. I was playing with my son on the quad when one of the buttons on the remote switch was accidentally pushed. The alarm sounded breifly then the quad shut down. Now it is totally unresponsive. Squeeze the brake lever, turn the key, push the start button, and nothing. No cranck just nothing.

Ok so I have tried unplugging the remote shut off, and replacing the fuse, still nothing. Tryed jumping it with my truck, nothing. I have no lights, just a dead quad. Thanks for the tips, Please don't give up. Any suggestions are much appreiciated.

with the key off or on, please try both ways, can you jump the solenoid to see if it cranks? you know, post to post with a screwdriver. then we can start to narrow it down in between your start button and the remote kill switch. just in case something shorted out.

Caution!!!
When you jump the solenoid you are bypassing all the interlocks that are there to keep the quad from starting up in gear without the brakes applied. In other words, the quad could possibly start up and take off unexpectedly. Make sure you set the parking brake, and make sure the transmission is in nuetral before jumping the solenoid.
.Below is a simplified wiring diagram for the starting circuitry on quads with remote control modules. It doesn't show how the remote module is wired into this, and it shouldn't matter because you have unplugged it anyway...

Take a meter and put the black lead on the battery negative terminal. Measure the DC voltage on the battery positive terminal. You should see 12 volts. Follow the circuitry through the path. I normally hate test lights because they cost more than meters and give 10% as much info as a meter does. But for these tests a test light wll work just fine if that's all you have.
1) Both ends of the fuse should have 12 volts.
2) One wire at the ignition switch should have 12 volts all the time, and one wire should have 12 volts only when the ignition switch is on. [Ignore the other two wires if you have them - they are "ground" and "kill" which aren't involved in gettting the quad starter to crank...]
3) One side of the brake switch should have 12 volts when the ignition switch is on, and the other wire should have 12 volts when the ignition switch is on and the brakes are applied [In addition the brake light should be on - Hence Mainstreet's earlier question about the brake light being lit up].
4) One side of the start button should have 12 volts when the brake light is lit up, the other side should have 12 volts when the brake light is lit up and the start button is pushed.
5) The solenoid small wires should have one side grounded all the time, and the other side should have 12 volts when the brake lights are on and the start button pushed.
I hope you can see the sequence in the diagram. 12 volts has to flow through the fuse, ignition switch, brake switch, and start button to get to the solenoid - which makes it go "click" and connects the battery to the starter motor just like you did with Jaster94's screwdriver solenoid jump test.

LynnEdwards, I just got a multimeter to test the voltage at the points that you gave me. The batery is reading good 12+volts. Not sure how to test the other points, where should I be grounding my black lead? Also I should be set at DCV on the meter, right?

Did you try jumping the solenoid? Does the starter motor turn? If you turn on the ignition and set all your kill switches to the *run* position - and then jump the solenoid - does the quad start up? It is very worthwhile doing this. There is a lot of diagnostic info in those tests

to all that offered their help in this matter I thank you very much. I just want to let you all know that we have figured it out. In checking the voltage readings I found a short in the wire in front of the fuse. Fixed the short now we are back up and running. I am both very happy and quite imbarassed that this is all that was wrong with the quad. Thanks again, Jack
