02 polaris sportsman 500 HO stock winch. Works well in and out. Just can not get it to free spool off. I must push the out button and pull at the same time. Is there w way to clean them? I have never had one apart. Any help would be great.

 

Does the **** on the winch to lock and unlock work?? Should just be able to unlock and you should be able to free wheel the winch cable out,IF I'm understanding you correctly?? OPT

Tear into it! I have one of the 1500s with the little cam switch to freespool-mine was stuck in freespool. I took it apart and cleaned it all out-really a cheap design and very simple when you get in there!

 

sounds like you need to take it apart and clean and lube it. it should be fine afgter that i'm guessing.

 

OK, went out this morning and the free wheel lever on the end just spins all the way around freely. Does not disengage the spool. I have tried to look up the manual on ling, but all I can find is that it is discontinued. Warn 2500 2.5 ci is all I can find printed on it as it sits on the quad? Any thoughts?

 

sounds like something broke in side for sure. you'll have to take it apart to check it or live w/ spooling out w/ the switch(a major PIA i would think). once you find out what is broke you should be able to get a replacement part. maybe email warn and ask if you can get parts. just a thought.
