Default 09 SP 400 HO heating up with winch

We used the Polaris mounting bracket that uses the existing rad. gaurd bolts to mount it. Trouble is the bracket and winch take up the entire rad. airspace between the two bumper uprights. Now we have to stop every 12 miles or so and let the fan cool down the engine because the temp. light comes on. The radiator is completely clean and I even tried ducting more air to the rad. but to no avail. Has anyone else had any temp. problems with the winch mounted and if so are there any solutions?

My dad had the same issues with his 08 400...the winch there makes the radiator hard to clean and the quad seemed to want to overheat everytime we had it out! Ended up selling it and buying a yamaha rather than deal with the frustration of the light being on constantly. Good luck, we never found a solution!

Don't know if you'll agree with this,BUT in the "olden" days before all the factory winch plates came into being we made our own mounting plates that would slide in the receiver hitch in the rear or even above with quick disconnect cables and had a welder even make up "receiver type collars" that we fabricated into the front bumpers along with quick disconnects. Costlier,BUT cheaper than a new machine and could be winched from either end.Still a viable option I would think and would help solve the air flow problem to the radiator? Just a thought! OPT

My 08 400HO has never overheated. I found out that you have to clean the back side of the rad as well as the front, cause thats where the mud hides and dries.
