Just got this 2000 Sportsman 500 and the Polaris winch that came with it gets power and actually sounds like the motor is turning, but it won't wind the cable. Do these have gears in side that could be stripped? It almost just seems like something isn't engaging, but all the electronics are in tact.

 

Try turning the lock and unlock cap on the end of the winch a couple times and see if helps. If not could be internal problems. OPT

 

Will do! I fiddled with that a little, but will try a bit more. I'm hoping it's something simple just hanging it up.

 

If that doesn't fix it, open it up. They are really very simple inside and you will be able to see what the problem is if you get it apart! There are diagrams online if you would happen to get it apart and not remember how it goes back together. Good Luck.
