I'm considering buying a 2001 or 02 Kodiak. They sound like a great machine. I am aware of the common reported problems on the y2k - rear brake and water pump. I can live with the rear brake issue and have seen posts that aftermarket pads help. My main concern is the water pump. I have read some posts that indicate the problem may have been fixed in 2001. Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone who has a 2001 model had this problem? I would appreciate it if 2001 owners could post problems/no problems with the water pump and the approx. mileage on their machines.

Thanks, I appreciate the help.

I have a 2001 with only 500 km's on it and have had no problems. A co-worker also has a 2001 and he has blown out the water pump seals twice now. I dont know the mileage on his machine. He bought his earlier in the year than mine, maybe they fixed it late in the production year or maybe its just a matter of time until I have the problem as well.

I know of some with the 2001 model that have run into water pump problems. Luck of the draw I guess.

I have a 00 kodiak. It had the water pump problem and Yamaha fixed it, even though it was out of warranty by 3 months or so. It has been fine ever since. I would like to say that, even though some dealers are a pain in the ***, Yamaha is excellent in customer service, based on my experience. They even paid for more than half of my radiator fan that went bad from too much water getting in the motor. I have taken my Kodiak thru hell and back and it is still ticking. Excellent machine. You will not be disappointed. Just my 2 cents.

My friend has a year old Kodiak with 1200 miles on it. Is this water seal thing garanteed to show up? What should he be on the look out for,a very small slow leak or a pool on the grage floor?

Tim, since he has 1,200 miles on it doubtful he will have the water pump problem.

I've got a 00 2wd Kodiak with about 2K hard desert miles on it. No probs with the pump or brakes. Maybe I just lucked out, but I wouldn't trade the Kodiak for any other machine!

I have a 2001 4x4 Kodiac with about 500 miles on it. I have not had any problems with my machine yet. I would not trade my Kodiac for any other macine on the market.
