I wanted to replace the break pads on my ATV but I couldnt, need help. I tried to push the thing that presses on the pads but its too hard, does anyone have instructions or a how to on how to replace brake pads. I do want to mention that the ATV has been sitting for about a year, should I remove caliper and clean it out. I messed around with the nipples on the brakw assembly and now the brakes are not working at all, is this because they got air and I have to bleed them properly? Please help.

 

Remove the caliper assembly from the rotor (2 bolts), Remove the 3/16" allen screw in back of caliper bracket(it allows the bracket to go back further so you can remove the pads. Install new pads on caliper, reinstall on rotor, after you do both sides,pump up brakes,replace small allen screw and tighten while rolling hub(wheel and tire off) until you feel it getting hard to turn,then LOOSEN allen screw 1/2 turn(this aligns caliper to rotor) Make sure master cylinder is full of type 3 OR 4 fluid (4 the best) pump handle and lock,(may have to do this several times)then open and close bleed screws one at a time . Keep doing this until all air is out and brake lever is firm!Keep master cylinder full of fluid while you do this. (Pump lever,lock lever,and bleed. THEN do it again) OPT

 

I will see what I can do this afternoon, I have read that it is not very hard to do. I think I just need a c-clamp to push the piston back so I can insert the new rear pads.
