why cant i get my 1998 polaris 400 to go into nuetral or reverse

 

please help me figure out how to put my polaris in reverse and nuetral

 

Polaris 400 what model?? Just guessing,if its a Scrambler I would think you have a linkage problem??Or a loose/stripped shift lever(belcrank) on the tranny?? If its an Explorer then its usually the shift box that wears out causing the shifting problems?? A little more info on the model Please! OPT

 

Hi....I'm new here and looking for help. Sometimes my Polaris won't shut off with the kill switch or the key but when the key switch is working right it runs great but when the key switch is not working right it runs like crap. Any ideas? I really appreciate any information you guys might have.

Welcome to the forum! This involves removing the tank plastic,but I would check on the left side of the atv at the circuit board where the black wire from the cdi ties in with all the black connections first. Plus while there you can find the wires that go to the key switch(routed under the headlight housing) and also the emergency kill switch wires that goes to the circuit board and check connections(all are color coded). Hopefully you'll find a bad connection there.Plus if everything looks ok,you can pull the ignition switch wires from the board and ohm them out(could be just a bad switch?) OPT
