Default 2003 90 polaris prediter

I just purchased this four wheeler from a buddy of mine and it is in great shape, but i am not getting any spark. Were do i start and how do i check what i need to check to find the problem, some one told me to get a manual and check the electrical ( stater, cdi , and the coil), how do you check those? If anyone has had problems with this or know what i need to do i would greatly appreciate it.

Welcome to the forum!First thing you can remove the plug cap and check if it has spark with the bare wire to the head. If not then I would remove the plastic flywheel cover and clean around the pickup coil and flywheel. Best to have a flywheel puller to remove it as most times the inside of the flywheel will be dusty and dirty along with the stator(bad design on prevention of dirt and water from entering through the plastic cover) Some I've cleaned up,most times the stator shorts out. Coils and cdis for the most part are usually not the problem, just the stators from 2000-2006 models even though they improved the cover a couple times. You can also tie the tether safety switch wires together to eliminate this as a problem also.A manual is a good thing to have as it will give you the specs for the stator and pickup coil along with the other components. Stators are what I replaced the most of though! Good luck OPT

Default still no spark

Well i replaced the stator on the prediter 90, and im am still getting no spark. these four wheelers have no battery, right? Only kick start, correct? To be a simple bike to work on, i think i am making to hard. I really dont know where to go from here, do you have any other ideas, and if so please explain. I do appreciate your help greatly.

Yes they have a battery and electric along with kick start! But a dead or no battery at all won't stop them from having spark,I've cranked many of em with dead batteries or customer had the battery out and I wasn't aware of it! (magneto triggered ignition) unless someone has done some tampering with the wiring on your machine! PLEASE get a manual as your friends suggested! OPT

i just installed a stator and new battery and cleaned out the carberater, but when i try to start it, it makes a buzzing sound. The buzzing sound is coming from a brass box that is located under the seat beside the battery, and it is on the end of a wire. What is it , and is it something i can go fix or do i have to go and buy a new part.

This is the starter relay! You can check your neighborhood auto to see if they can match it,if not then Polaris is your only option. PS try dropping it on the ground and see if it works! Contacts could be frozen $28 at Cycle Parts Warehouse. Also you might check in the Chinese atv section as they a lot of times use the same parts and may have a better source of supply. OPT

First of all i just want to say thank you to Old Polaris Tech, you have been very helpful, and great to work with. My next question is, i get the machine started and now it runs for about 5 to 10 secs. and then it sounds like it is starving for gas, but if i turn the on and off switch from off to on it will dom the same thing again, what do you think it is. Man im thinking i screwed up buying this fourwheeler from a friend that sat up forfive to seven years. Any ideas?

Check that the fuel line from the tank to the petcock, and the petcock to the carb isn't kinked and restricting fuel flow. Plus if you haven't cleaned the carb and jets, then probably time to do it? Also check that the small block off tube and red plug are ok on the back of the carb and the tube isn't split (found some of these split before, sucking air, running lean) Plus did you ever check compression also? Should be enough to blow your thumb off spark plug hole if you don't have a gauge. OPT
