Default Polaris Trailblazer 2000 problems

Hey I have a 2000 polaris trailblazer and everytime i accelerate too fast or go up hills it makes a loud "clunking" noise and i was wondering if it was the forward transmission because when i go in reverse it doesnt make the noise. Also, we had it up on a jack and when we reved it up there was no noise. Please help, thanks.

First thing if you haven't already done it is to check the chain slack and especially the front sprocket for wear, could be jumping teeth? Slack should be about 3/8" in the middle of the chain. If sprockets, chain slack and the chain itself (keep lubed) are ok, when you had it lifted up did you check for any side to side play on the rear axle for bearing wear in the rear housing, could be a problem or the swing arm also for movement side to side?? If both are tight with no excessive movement then could be the transmission internal "silent chain" making the noise. They can get slack under heavy pulling or loads and do the same thing as the outside chain and sprockets. Plus check that the shift linkage is tight on the transmission and shift lever. OPT

agreed that check worn out sproket and chain as under power if there loose and worn they will jump teeth onthe sproket.

If it's been sitting 10 years no telling what may be wrong. Plus if it wasn't stored properly could be several different things. If fuel valve was left on crank seals could be leaking causing bogging, plus the fuel line itself could be deteriorating and stopping up carb jets if it hasn't been replaced. Sometimes the worst running ones are the ones not ridden enough. OPT
