2010 Sportsman 550 xp w/Glacier Plow
#1
So I have heard on various forums that the Glacier 2 Plow system is not so good.. well I am one to agree... had this plow on my machine for less then one winter in AK and ended up bending both the Tubes on the front mount on the blade... to the point of not usable... so we took it off and took it to our frame shop and did some custom work too it to make it more stable.. I am going to try and send a photo of what we did in hopes that others might need to do this same thing.. After straightening out the tubes and the cross member we took some 2 inch tubing and welded in across from side to side .. as yu can see.. one on the top one in the middle and one on the bottom.. and to make it a little more stable and less wear on the tubs we took a peice of 1/16th steel plate and made a complete skid plate and welded it to the tubing on the sides and on the lower cross brace and on the top cross brace. and then went through all the welds and re-enforced all of them if you have any questions about this mod please feel free to post them and I will answer any .. thanks

I have a polaris 2011 polar and had a 2010 both with the same plow hook up. I love the attach and disconnect but you are right it does not take bench bend the mounting plate. I had to do the same thing, heat it up and straigthen it and use some reinforce steel and weld it in areas that I thought were the problem area. My 2011 has not bent yet but I have only used it once. One thing to look at is Polaris has came out with a new plastic plow which is a lot lighter and easier on your lift or host. I'm also a firm believer in the new nylon winch rope instead of the cable type as it does not matter what you do when plowing or using it all the time tears the crap out of he roller fair lead. anyways I think this is the first time Polaris has not heard about the bending problem and should have by now made some modification, but you know how that goes. I know you probably dont want to hear this but the ones designed that has a saft that pushes from the middlle or rear are maybe the way to go beause it takes the strain off the front end. Rigth now be careful when plowing at a angle or straight and hit things at a angle or just plan on when you buy a quick attached that just plan on getting it built up more. Also give the new blue Polaris plastic blow a look, Takes the weight off the front and I believe it would be tough to break if at all. They just came out with them this year.
