Default Polaris sportsman 700 running bad

Hey guys here whats going on, I noticed a gas leak on the sportsman at the bottom of the carb where the over flow pipe is. Didn't think much of it,thought it might be because it sat for a while. but while i was looking at it i noticed the intake boot was cracked. So ordered the new boot and installed it. Started it up and went for a test run, and what the problem is when you floor it it just back fires and pops out of the intake and doesn't go past like 30 and has no power. So first thing i did was change the spark plugs and plug caps..still didn't fix it. Then i cleaned the jets in the carb and still nothing so next i though it had somthing to do with the dyno jet kit i had installed, (142 main jet) i changed it to 148 and still no difference... so i decided to put the stock jet and needle in.(162 main jet) after i got it back together and whent for a ride still running like crap. No difference with air box cover on or off and if i pull the choke it dies so the choke is normal. Also its still drips from bottom of carb and when i take the intake boot of the air box side and look at the carb when its running seems like alot of gas is coming out when i hit the throttle almost like sprays out. ive been trying to figure this out for like 2 days so someone please help!

check your engine oil, Ill bet its overfull, float valve is bad in carb, thats why its leaking out the bottom, has probably filled crancase with gas causing a very rich condition, need to fix carb first then chande oil and filter

What year model it? If its between 2002-2004 could be the Ducati ignition system going out along with possible carb problems? OPT

Might as well get the updated ignition kit! Possibly most of your problem. Do some research on this as this happened eventually on all the early 600 and 700 models. OPT

Something to consider but i want to try other possible solutions before i spend a lot of money on a ignition kit. The ignition doesn't explain why so much fuel is in the carb maybe the whole problem is because there's to much gas in the bowl? also i read somewhere that restrictions in the exhaust can cause this?

If the ignition is failing then spark timing, ability to ignite the fuel charge is altered. You can rebuild the carb(if hasn't ever been touched) probably time to replace the needle valve, etc anyway.Along with checking out anything else that may be a problem, but the Ducati ignition will eventually fail and could leave you stranded! Some of them started out running bad, other owners just killed the machine and they never fired back up! Just trying to keep you from being stranded out in the boonies! OPT
