Default 02 sportsman 500 clutch kit question

I have an 02 Sportsman 500 "Professional Series". These were only made in 02 and were built as a work horse. They have a lot of low end power but the top speed is only 25mph. Also they are all time 4X4.

My question is if I install a new clutch kit will I have more top end speed? Right now when you hit 25 it almost sounds as if the engine is governed. But it sounds as if the RPM are pretty high. So I was hoping that a new clutch kit would help the speed.

Does a normal SP500 sound as if its governed when you get up to speed? Which clutch kits do most people use?

Thanks,

AS

Welcome to the forum! If it's the old yellow 500 Professional series I believe it had the engine limiter build into the carb diaphragm cap. It had a tube leading from the cap to a control valve and some other plumbing. Might be able just to block this off as it limited the carb slide from fully opening. OPT

It is the yellow professional series. So I just need to block the tube somehow? I will look a little closer at it later today. I appreciate your advice and I have read many of your posts and have learned a lot from them. Thanks!

Just try this first and see if it helps, but there could be some other electrical things involved too! Can't remember too much on these as they were only out a short while and we did sell one or two,but never had one come back in for any service! OPT

Thats a odd ATV even slower then the old 500 diesels where. Why not stick with a regular 500 with a stump pulling low range and a high range that goes over 55mph. Some times they just fix things until they are broke I quess.
