Default 1980 ATC 100 steering issues

Hello all!! New to the forum. Thanks for any info in advance. I just bought a 1980 ATC 100. The thing is in great shape. Starts and runs like dream. The only issue i'm having is that it seems awfully hard to steer. I don't remember these being that difficult when i was a kid. Any suggestions? I looked at the steering column and it looks like everything is in tact with no visible signs of damage. I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but this has me stumped. I want to let me niece ride this alone, but if i'm having an issue with steering, there is no way she'll be able to handle it. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the ***** in the neck? there should be grease in there if it's dry it could get hard to turn.

Tire pressure can cause steering problems
