i have an 86 trx250 that came stock with 25" tires and i am wondering if i put something like a 22" tire on it would it help the top end speed or slow it down? also what would be the disadvantages of this? thanks for readin.

Front or rear. If your talking rear then i would get smaller. I would guess stock is 22 or maybe less. Check if the front sproket is stock. It might of put on a different size to compensate for the bigger tires. Smaller tire wil help your acceleration.

I'm pretty sure he is talking about the 250 utility (shaft dive), not the 250r. It's simple. Smaller tires=more power, less top speed/Larger tires=more top speed, less power. Smaller tires give you a lower center of gravity, making your quad more stable, and taller tires give it a more ground clearance. I would suggest sticking with stock size, and getting different style tires for your ridding style. Thinking about it, a 250r with 25 inch tires would be um,...err.. different.
