Default Sportsman 700 tranny problem??

I've owned my '07 Sportsman 700 since new and it has about 1300 miles on it. I've changed oil regularly, but have been negligent with the other fluids. I finally drained the trans today and the picture shows what my drain plug looked like. When I put my finger into the drain hole, the chain (I'm assuming it's a chain) seems very loose and appears to be dragging on the plug.

This machine has never given me any problems and I didn't suspect any problems, but this looks like trouble to me. Please share your thoughts.

This seems to be a common complaint on the 700 and I believe the 800 after a good bit of time has been on them and if they especially haven't had regular maintenance. To be honest with you I never had one come into the shop with the drain plug ground down, but several posts have been made on the forum that you might check into about. The best thing I can advise you to do is use Polaris AGL only and change it between 75-100 hours. The silent chain has already stretched and since you don't have any problems yet,I would continue to run it.Don't really know if the plug might be too long to begin with?? Others may jump in with their experiences on this and help you out also. OPT

Thanks for the response, OPT. My actual hours are just under 100, so I'm glad I'm not as far off as I thought I might be. I use Mobile 1 for engine oil, but I did just pick up all Polaris fluids for everything else. I assume the drain plug is standard length, because both the drain and fill plugs were the same length.

I haven't had a chance to do any additional searches yet, and will do so, but also welcome other opinions on the slack in the chain because I don't want to be venturing off into the woods if this thing is likely to fail.

On the subject of Polaris fluids, I've done some searches on this site, but haven't found a clear answer yet. Neither my 700 nor my wife's '07 Sportsman 500 have ADC, but I'm not positive if I can/should use the Demand Drive Plus fluid in them. I have a quart of it at home now, but I'm not clear if I should be using the Demand Drive Premium or the Demand Drive Plus. Does the Plus replace the Premium and a few other fluids??

The Plus replaces the Demand Drive Premium as an "all in one" fluid for the front gear case and the adc reservoir instead of having an adc fluid also. You can use either one since you don't have adc. Confusing I know, plus look at the maintenance chart in the "sticky section" above the expert section for your model on all fluids. OPT

Thanks for the confirmation! I had actually downloaded that PDF and used it as my guide to buy my fluids, then I looked in the owner's manual and saw it recommended the Premium fluid. So I started searching this site and never found a clear answer, so this is exactly what I was looking for.

Wow, I just did some searching on the site and found numerous reports of worn drain plugs just like mine. While I'm not crazy about this, at least I'm not alone and it looks like other machines are still going. For now, I guess I'm just going to ride and pay attention to how it behaves and the noises it makes. Fingers crossed...
